The BRA and UDR, which is turning Pier 4 into a mixed-use development, are soliciting bids for civic or cultural use of 20,000 square feet of space at the pier's first new building - a 21-story apartment building.
Qualified uses could include museum, library, exhibition, gallery, theater, performance, or aquarium space. The exterior and first floor civic and cultural areas are intended to be interconnected with similar space on the building’s mezzanine level, in terms of both design and programming.
The space is divided between two floors and includes some outdoor space at the ground level.
The BRA and UDR have set a meeting on April 14 for prospective operators of the space, which would join the nearby ICA as a waterfront draw.
They hope to have a proposal selected by June 1 - after consultation with the state Department of Environment Protection, which oversees waterfront development.
