The front wheels of a Red Line car came off the rails in a mishap yesterday at the MBTA's Cabot Yard in South Boston.
According to an initial internal account, a driver was moving four cars:
Train was making a move out of 8 south of the car house when it picked up a metal grate and dragged it. Knocking over the 3rd rail. Cabot Yardmaster reports that truck #1 of 1741 is off the rail.
1741 and the three other cars are some of the older cars on the Red Line, initially put into service in the late 1980s.
